Math 0306 - Internet

Welcome

Gretings. Welcome to the Internet version of Math0306. My name is James Alleman. I am your instructor.

Don't take Chapter 1 or this course lightly. Chapter 1 begins at a very basic level by introducing whole numbers, the number line, and the principles of rounding. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are reviewed to give the student a chance to get back up to speed with any forgotten math facts and start thinking mathematically. Exponents and the order of operations follow to complete the rules for evaluating mathematical expressions. Chapter 1 ends with a discussion on factoring and prime factorization. Your first assignment is described in detail on the assignment page.

The best way to succeed in Mathematics is to work problems every day. At the end of each section in the textbook are exercises with problems for your working pleasure. The problems in each exercise should be divided up and worked over several days to enhance the learning process. Work the odd numbered problems to verify that you have obtained the material presented. The answers to the odd numbered problems are found at the back of the textbook. Beginning with chapter 2, assignments for each section will be available for work and submission via WebCT as a part of your grade. Each assignment will have problems similar to problems at the end of each section in the textbook.
